G.R.O.W. had the privilege of hosting the putting contest at Merit’s annual Golf Tournament on June 9th. Rachel did a fantastic job assisting the organizers with operating the putting contest and the proceeds from the putting contest were donated to the G.R.O.W. program.

G.R.O.W Day Program

We welcomed all participants back to G.R.O.W. for in-person programming, full-time in May. We continue to do wellness checks, and wear masks while in doors.

G.R.O.W. continues to take advantage of the beautiful weather, exercising outside as much as possible. Participants have been enjoying walks through Assiniboine Park and on Wellington Crescent. We have been completing group work, lyric club, and book club outdoors, weather permitting. Participants have resumed using public transportation to our community outings. Participants have also been working hard in the areas of Healthy Eating, Healthy Mind and Body, Money Management and Social Skills. We have also implemented “group baking” once a week, which gives participants the opportunity to work together and make a healthy snack for the program.

With the upcoming 20th anniversary for G.R.O.W. in Gimli, from 6-9 pm on Wednesday, September 14 participants have been working hard on a special group project. Some participants have decided to create a scrapbook while others have been working hard on paintings to help celebrate and reflect on their time in Gimli. They are coming along great!

Saturday “Gaining at G.R.O.W.” program will target young adults with social, intellectual, or developmental disabilities who are working or in school. It will run on Saturdays on a 3-monthcycle with up to 4-6 participants. Gaining at G.R.O.W. will utilize peer-teaching and a learn-bydoing approach to enhance or expand participants’ life skills and social skills needed for successful participation in independent or semi-independent living.

Participants will identify their own individual life skills goals to work on for the duration of the program. During weekly sessions, learning modules will focus on supporting participants in meeting individual goals in addition to the flexible application of general life skills group curriculum materials in areas such as cooking, cleaning, and community safety.
